Signature events

In an effort to support student growth and staff development in the university community, the VCU Staff Senate sponsors three signature events:

2012 Virginia’s Caring University Scholarship Walk-a-thon

Each spring, the VCU Staff Senate sponsors an annual walk-a-thon to raise funds for the Virginia's Caring University Scholarship, an undergraduate award for juniors and seniors in financial need with a grade point average of 2.7 or better. Since beginning the program in 2005, the scholarship has helped 70 undergraduate students continue their education and graduate from VCU by raising more than $65,000 cumulatively from the VCU and VCU Health System communities.

This year’s walk-a-thon will take place Thursday, March 29, 2012. All participants should meet by noon on the Monroe Park Campus at the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms, located at 907 Floyd Ave. A quick warmup with Eric West, Ph.D., associate professor, VCU Recreational Sports, will get us started, followed by a fun-filled walk around Monroe Park. Participants will then convene in the Student Commons for a short program featuring David Hanson, Ed.D., vice president for finance and administration. There will be food, giveaways and a chance to win raffle items and door prizes, as well as booths set up by local vendors/supporters.

All administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, retired faculty and community supporters are invited to participate.

Registration/donations can be made online using a credit/debit card or by payroll deduction.
Though online donations/registration is strongly encouraged, you can register the day of the walk beginning at 11 a.m. by filling out this form. Description: [PDF]
