President’s Message

I am honored to serve as your VCU Staff Senate president for the 2009–10 term. During my involvement with the Staff Senate over the past three years, I have seen this organization grow and develop into a strong voice for classified employees here at VCU and the VCU Health System.

The VCU Staff Senate is made up of representatives of classified employees in every division at VCU and the VCU Health System. We are your voice for staff issues and concerns. This Web site is designed to help you learn more about what we do and how you can contact us. You’ll also find updates on issues and events affecting VCU and VCU Health System staff.

The VCU Staff Senate has been the recognized organization for staff for the past 18 years. This valuable organization provides a bridge between classified employees and VCU administration, effectively conveying to VCU and VCUHS officials the issues and concerns of the staff. We have worked with the administration to improve staff representation, leadership opportunities and staff recognition, including:

Our organization has reached out to the VCU and Richmond communities with events like the Virginia’s Caring University Scholarship Walk-a-thon, which raises money for undergraduates in need, and the Ram Tree program, which donates gifts to elderly citizens in the Richmond area during the holidays, among others.

Please check the VCU Staff Senate meeting schedule. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month and are open to the public. We would like to invite you to come by and see what your Senators are doing. You are also welcome to serve on staff committees as a non-senator if interested.

The VCU Staff Senate is ready and willing to respond to your concerns. Staff Senators volunteer their time and energy to ensure that VCU is the best that it can be, for all of us. I am proud to serve as your VCU Staff Senate president. Please feel free to contact me or one of your Senators regarding any concerns or suggestions you may have.

Sincerely,

Susan M. Beavers
President, VCU Staff Senate
